What are Frayer Model Worksheets?

Frayer Models are graphic organizers divided into five parts. The word or concept is put into the middle, and there are four boxes around that word or concept.

Why Are They Important and How Are They Best Used?

Traditionally, Frayer Models are used for learning and practicing vocabulary. The box titles may vary, but commonly used are definition, characteristics, sentence, examples, non-examples, and picture. The Frayer Model gives students discrete sections to focus on one aspect of the vocabulary word at a time. As this graphic organizer is very easy to use, many teachers have adapted the Frayer Model for other purposes. By changing the titles of each box, teachers can provide a powerful framework for whatever their students need.
