Washington's state nickname is the Evergreen State due to the large amount of forest. Its state motto is "Into the Future".

MUST SEE TOURIST SPOT
Mount Saint Helens National Volcanic Monument is a popular tourist attraction in Washington. Its last eruption was in 1980, and in 1982 the volcano and surrounding area became a protected research area. The still active volcano has hundreds of thousands of visitors a year.

Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates was born in Seattle in 1955. Bill was very bright and interested in computers, and wrote his first software program at age 13! Along with his friend Paul Allen, Gates founded Microsoft, and the first version of Windows came out in 1985.
