- Alexander Graham Bell was a pioneer in the communications world. Bell grew up with a deaf mother, which lead to him experimenting and researching the science of sound. Bell's experiments with sound and the telegraph wire lead to his breakthrough invention of the telephone. In 1877, he founded the Bell Telephone Company and forever changed how humans communicates with one another.

- The cotton gin transformed the cotton production industry by expeditingthe process of removing seeds from cotton fiber. This lead to increased demand for slave labor in the South, which became a major catalyst for the American Civil War.
