- The capital of California is Sacramento. Other large cities include Los Angeles, San Diego, San Jose, and San Francisco.

- California's nickname is the Golden State, referring to the 1848 Gold Rush and the golden poppy flowers that bloom in the spring. Its state motto is Eureka, which means I have found it. This may also refer to the discovery of gold.

- Disneyland opened in Anaheim, California on July 17, 1955. Since its opening, it has had approximately 750 million visitors!
