Activity Overview

Advertisements, brochures, travel posters, and scrapbook pages are great ways for students to showcase famous sites and features of a city, state, or country. In this activity, students will create one of the above and illustrate at least 2-4 major sites in their assigned location. They should include the name of the place, an illustration or photograph of each famous site, and a description of each. Students may also wish to include images that represent attributes of the location such as its flag, food, animals, people and other relevant features. Teachers can print out the posters, laminate them, and hang them around the classroom or school to have students do a gallery walk and view the many places around the world that students have researched. They could also project the students' posters onto the board and each student could take turns presenting their poster to the class!

Teachers can ask students to create one of the projects, or they can offer all four options and let students select which one they would like to complete. All will contain the same type of information, just presented in a different way! More than one template can be added to the assignment to give students a choice. Be sure to update instructions accordingly.
