Activity Overview
The ancient Egyptians had a highly sophisticated society that they maintained for 3000 years. In this activity, students will try to figure out how this degree of success was reached by researching the political, economic, religious, social, intellectual, and artistic characteristics of ancient Egypt. In addition, they will explore the impact of geography on the development of Egyptian civilization.
Students should use the P.E.R.S.I.A.(N.) model to organize the information in their storyboard. This activity is a great way to organize large sections of textbook information and provides a handy reference for later activities and lessons.
Students Can Collaborate!
Teachers may wish for students to work together on this lesson which is possible with Storyboard That's Real Time Collaboration feature! With Real Time Collaboration, students can work on the same storyboard at the same time which is perfect for this lesson! As teachers know, collaborating on assignments allows students to think on a deeper level while increasing their communication and problem-solving skills. Collaboration can also help cut down on the time it takes to complete a storyboard. While there is no set limit to the number of users who can work on a storyboard at once, we recommend five users or fewer for optimal performance. All of our assignments default to individual. To make this lesson collaborative, teachers must enable collaboration for the assignment within the "Edit Assignment" tab.
Extension Activity
Students could select one of their characteristics and describe why it made the most significant contribution to the longevity of ancient Egypt in a Frayer Model. Students could also rate their characteristics in order from least to most important.

Integrate Primary Sources into Your Ancient Egypt PERSIAN Analysis
Enrich your students' understanding by including primary sources like ancient Egyptian texts, artifacts, and images in their PERSIAN analysis. This approach helps students connect textbook information to real-world historical evidence, fostering deeper engagement and critical thinking.
Select age-appropriate primary sources for classroom use
Choose visuals (e.g., photos of artifacts, hieroglyphics) and translated excerpts from ancient texts that match your students’ reading levels. This ensures students can access and understand the material while staying engaged.
Assign each PERSIAN category a related primary source
Link each letter of the PERSIAN model to a specific primary source (e.g., use a picture of the Rosetta Stone for Intellectual or a tomb painting for Religion). This makes abstract concepts concrete for students.
Guide students to analyze what the source reveals
Ask students to describe what the selected source shows about ancient Egyptian society and connect it to their PERSIAN category. This builds analytical skills and reinforces historical understanding.
Facilitate discussion and reflection
Encourage students to share how primary sources changed or deepened their view of each PERSIAN aspect. Discussion fosters critical thinking and helps students synthesize their learning.
